Newcastle United will surely need new signings over the next few transfer windows.
Following a summer window so bad Newcastle legend Alan Shearer claimed the owners had “failed” manager Eddie Howe, work will need to be done.
Howe of course does have some brilliant players at his disposal at St James’ Park but not making any significant signings was hardly the best message to send out, even if spending was down across the Premier League this summer.
PIF are reportedly stressing the fact they remain ambitious on Tyneside and while it will take a lot more than new signings to get Newcastle regularly competing with the elite, actually making them would at least be a start.
Luckily, they reportedly remain in pursuit of a player branded “amazing” by pundit Owen Hargreaves for his performance in a Europa League final.

Newcastle remain keen to sign Ederson ahead of next summer
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle continue to track Atalanta star Ederson.
The Brazilian has long been linked with a move to the club and the report suggests the interest remains.
While Newcastle did not move for a new midfielder this summer as it was not deemed a priority position, it could become one next summer if others leave in a potential rebuild.
Ederson may have made a U-turn on his future after links with Newcastle
There had previously been suggestions that Ederson was open to leaving the Serie A in pursuit of pastures new.
That may have changed, however.
After winning the Europa League, it was said that the player was open to staying in Bergamo, with the club entering the Champions League a result.
Quite whether Newcastle, who may not have such a competition on offer next season, can tempt him away remains to be seen.
