Newcastle United have an awful lot to play for before the transfer window reopens.

Indeed, a fine run of results of late have propelled Newcastle United right back into Champions League qualification. Now, it would be a major disappointment not to see them reclaim their spot at Europe’s top table next season.

Still, with the club constantly looking to improve, supporters never have to wait long between emerging transfer stories.

Antonio Cordero is the latest name to be frequently mentioned in conjunction with the club.

Newcastle are thought to have signed Cordero from Malaga, although there has yet to be any official communication from the club at the time of writing.

Such is the level of excitement about the teenage winger, Barcelona attempted to hijack Newcastle’s move for Cordero, though that looks to have failed.

Now, yet more updates on his future have emerged.

What Antonio Cordero’s camp are saying about his future after Newcastle move

Newcastle had been expected to loan Cordero out this summer, once his move to St James’ Park was officially complete.

Clearly, that makes sense. While the 18-year-old looks an exciting talent, expecting him to make a quick-fire step-up from the Spanish second tier to life in the Premier League feels somewhat foolish.

Still, there now seems to be at least some level of doubt in regards to his immediate future.

According to The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai on social media platform X, the player’s camp are suggesting a decision on a loan move or staying at Newcastle next season is in fact yet to have been made.

The huge club interested in Antonio Cordero after Newcastle move

Newcastle reportedly believe the teenager could benefit from a loan stint in the Dutch Eredivisie, having seen Yankuba Minteh thrive at Feyenoord last season.

Ajax are keen on Cordero and a move to the Amsterdam giants looks a wise idea, at least on paper.

Antonio Cordero’s all-time stats for Malaga

The prospect of playing for a huge European club must be exciting. Though no longer the force of old of course, Ajax are on course to win the title once again, which would send them back into the Champions League next season.

Cordero would surely benefit from playing at a club like that, if Newcastle do not quite deem his ready for their first-team just yet.
