Major Newcastle United boost as Man City make transfer U-turn

Newcastle United’s very best players have been linked with a move away for what feels an age now, including Tino Livramento.

Livramento has proven an excellent signing for Newcastle United. The 22-year-old arrived from Southampton in the summer of 2023 and has since made 77 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Newcastle paid £32million for Livramento and it’d be fair to say that has worked out. Livramento was brilliant as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup in March, marking Mohamed Salah out of the game at Wembley.

Having become an England international along the way, the former Chelsea youngster has been linked with a departure from St James’ Park. Manchester City have been linked with Livramento, though a fresh update has provided a boost for Toon supporters.

Man City ready to drop Tino Livramento interest

According to noted transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, Pep Guardiola’s side are still interested in the former Southampton defender.

However, Di Marzio suggests the Etihad giants are now prepared to focus their interest elsewhere.

While Livramento is said to remain an “option”, City are now pushing to sign Flamengo defender Wesley in order to land him before this summer’s Club World Cup, which starts in the United States on Saturday June 15, 2025.

How Tino Livramento feels about Man City’s transfer interest

Signing the full-back will not be easy, despite the financial power City have. The defender is under contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2028, so the club are under no immediate pressure to sell.

That’s without even mentioning the fact Livramento is happy at Newcastle. Speaking to Geordie Boot Boys in February, TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed exactly that.

Luckily, it seems City now have eyes on other targets. Selling Livramento would be a brutal blow for Newcastle, so it’s pleasing to read they may be focusing their attention elsewhere.
