Newcastle United have just been handed the chance to sign a player they’ve wanted for years.

Fans should be excited for the summer with Paul Mitchell able to spend with more freedom thanks to the club’s sensible approach to the January transfer window.

Eddie Howe has had to deal with the consequences of player sales this season, however. In January it was no different as he was forced to say goodbye to two useful squad players.

Newcastle let Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly leave for Atlanta United and Juventus respectively. The pair have endured differing starts to life away from Tyneside.

The silver lining is that Newcastle United should bag around £30m from their departures which will be added to the transfer kitty. Newcastle’s £73m PSR boost should also be a huge help.

Mitchell knows what positions need to be strengthened and words from a journalist in Italy have suggested that he could now sign a player that Newcastle have wanted since 2021.

Newcastle learn Dusan Vlahovic asking price

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is having a fairly positive season for the Italian giants. So far this campaign, the 25-year-old has scored 13 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions, including four goals in the Champions League.

Despite his good form, Vlahovic has been linked with a move away from the Serie A side this season. Newcastle were linked to Vlahovic earlier in February, the Magpies are set to rival Tottenham for his signature in the summer.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for Vlahovic since 2021. Coincidentally, it was also Spurs who were linked back then as well.

Vlahovic has been called ‘majestic’ when previously linked to Newcastle for his fantastic goalscoring ability.

Now, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has confirmed that Juventus are planning to sell Vlahovic at the end of the season – his asking price has been set at €25-€30m (£21m-£25m). The Serbian international’s contract runs out at the end of next season, so now could be the last time that Juventus get a fee that best reflects his value.

Schira also confirmed that Vlahovic is no longer in Juventus boss Thiago Motta’s plans.

Vlahovic has featured in two of Kelly’s three appearances for Juventus since he joined at the end of the January transfer window, including their 3-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven where Kelly was blasted by Italian media for his performance.

Dusan Vlahovic would be a great replacement for Alexander Isak

While the Magpies are expected to be busy from an arrivals perspective, they must be cautious that players could also leave in the summer transfer window.

One player who has his fair share of transfer interest is Alexander Isak who has been Newcastle’s star player this season. The Swede has scored 19 goals in all competitions so far this campaign and could add to his tally when Newcastle host Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Although it looks unlikely if Isak were to leave Vlahovic would be a great replacement for the 25-year-old who could move elsewhere for well over £100m.

Stylistically, the players do have their differences. Isak prefers to play at the ball at his feet whereas Vlahovic’s set pieces are a force to be reckoned with. Either way, Newcastle would undoubtedly benefit if they signed the Serbian.
