It is currently unclear how much longer Miguel Almiron will be a Newcastle United player for.
The 29-year-old has not looked at all likely to leave Newcastle United during the January transfer window, but that all changed on Monday.
A report emerged that Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab had provisionally agreed to sign the Paraguayan from Newcastle, with Miguel Almiron open to making the move.
The claim was initially played down elsewhere, but it now looks like the winger could be someone who the Magpies sell during the January transfer window. Newcastle are looking for a deal worth £30million, which is £9million more than what they paid for him in 2019.
Of all the players linked with leaving Newcastle this month, Almiron probably makes the most sense. His exit would open the door for Eddie Howe to reinvest, while his departure would not hurt as much as if someone like Kieran Trippier left the club.
The stars could be aligning for Almiron to call time on his Newcastle United career, but an update from journalist Luke Edwards has cast some doubt over a move away from Tyneside.
Luke Edwards does not believe Miguel Almiron wants to move to Saudi Arabia
Edwards has spoke about Almiron’s future on the latest episode of the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast.
“Then you’ve got poor Miguel Almiron,” he said.
“Does the player actually want to leave? That’s the other question.
“I’m hearing that he’s not particularly sold on going to Saudi Arabia at the moment. If the club accepts a bid, does he just say okay I’ll go and earn a load of money in Saudi Arabia. It’s going to be really interesting.”

Newcastle may need another suitor for Almiron
Edwards is hearing that Almiron might not be too keen on leaving Newcastle for Saudi Arabia. It it no surprise that he has concerns, as plenty of players who headed to the Middle East last year have been linked with returns.
We have even seen Jordan Henderson end his time in Saudi Arabia, leaving Al-Ettifaq to sign for Ajax this month.
At the minute, it seems like it is Saudi Arabia or nothing for Almiron. There does not appear to be any other suitors, which could be a problem for Newcastle.
If Miggy does not want to make the move then that will likely be the end of it. He has a deal at St James’ Park until 2026 and will be entitled to stay.
And if Almiron does stay then it does not look like there will be any incoming at Newcastle United this month.
Another issue for Newcastle is if Almiron does join a club in Saudi Arabia. That will lead to the Magpies being under the spotlight given who they are owned by. There were plenty of questions when Allan Saint-Maximin headed to Saudi Arabia in the summer, and there will be even more if Almiron makes a similar move.
