Newcastle United could be set to lose Kieran Trippier this summer.

While all the focus is on incomings and Newcastle closing in on a deal for Marc Guehi, the Magpies could also be preparing for a major departure.

Kieran Trippier has asked to leave Newcastle United, despite Eddie Howe being eager for him to remain at St James’ Park.

The 33-year-old is in the final year of his Toon contract, and a move away has been on the cards all summer. It was reported earlier in the year that Trippier would probably leave Newcastle, and a departure now seems more certain than ever ahead of the transfer window closing on August 30th.

Trippier is a target for Atalanta and Galatasaray, but is also attracting interest from the Premier League.

Kieran Trippier linked with Everton move as Newcastle exit looms

According to the Athletic, Everton are interested in signing Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United.

They report that the Toffees are keen to bring in a right-back before the transfer window closes, and have held talks with Newcastle about a possible loan deal for Trippier.

Given his contract situation at Newcastle, it would be a major surprise if a loan offer was accepted for the England international.

But the interest is there from Everton, and that could be a very intriguing option for Trippier.

There are multiple reasons why a move to Everton could appeal to Trippier, one of which came about in a recent conversation with Gary Neville.

Back in June, Trippier appeared on The Overlap YouTube channel, and was asked to name his best friend in football by Neville.

“Jordan Pickford or Kyle Walker,” he said.

“Even though he [Pickford] is from Sunderland. I might get a bit of stick for that.”

Everton transfer could suit Trippier perfectly

A move to Everton would allow Trippier to play alongside his close friend Jordan Pickford, which is something he has only done at international level.

And even that might not happen for much longer, as it is unclear if Trippier has a future with England following the Euro 2024 final defeat and the departure of Gareth Southgate.

The chance to play with Pickford every week would surely appeal to Trippier, as would the chance to work with Sean Dyche again. Dyche managed Trippier at Burnley, and they could now be reunited at Goodison Park, just like he was with Howe at St James’ Park.

Signing for Everton would also give Trippier the chance to return to the North West, having been born in Bury and played for Manchester City and Burnley.

The chance to return home could be appealing, and just like how geography played a key role in getting him to join Newcastle United back in January 2022. After two and a half years with Atletico Madrid, it was decided that Trippier would return England, which allowed the Magpies to swoop in.

There are plenty of factors that suggest Everton could be a good move for Trippier, but a deal will only materialise if it makes sense from a financial perspective for Newcastle United.
