Tino Livramento is going to become a Newcastle United player. It looks like all we are now waiting for is official confirmation from the club.

The Magpies made a breakthrough last week, agreeing a fee to sign Livramento from Southampton on Thursday.

That then opened the door for the 20-year-old to have a medical on Tyneside, while it was also hoped that he could make an appearance in one of the Sela Cup games.

That did not happen, but Livramento was at least at St James’ Park, which was a clear indication that a deal is heading towards its conclusion.

Monday has brought news that the defender has completed his medical, and now Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has shared an update on exactly how much Newcastle are paying for the talented youngster who has a huge amount of potential.

How much Newcastle are paying for Tino Livramento

According to Downie, Newcastle are going to pay an initial £31million to sign Livramento from Southampton. He adds that the deal also includes £5million worth of performance-related add-ons, meaning the entire transfer could total £36million.

He wrote on Twitter: “Correction on total fee: I’m told the agreement for Tino Livramento to Newcastle is £31m (plus £5m in performance-related add-ons).”

With add-ons, that would make him the most expensive defender in Newcastle’s history. It would eclipse the £35million deal for Sven Botman last summer.

Livramento is going to be an expensive signing for Newcastle, but not as expensive as first anticipated. It had been claimed by some outlets that the deal was going to be worth £40million.

However, Downie does not think he is quite as expensive as that, as supporters await the official announcement from the club.

It has to be imminent, with everything now in place. The fee is agreed, personal terms are sorted and his medical is completed. And he’s even had the chance to watch his new team play twice, with Newcastle lifting the prestigious Sela Cup on Sunday afternoon after beating Villarreal 4-0.
