Newcastle United were desperate to sign Moussa Diaby last summer, but were met with an unwilling seller in Bayer Leverkusen.
Diaby was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, but Newcastle were unable to land the player that was described as a ‘dream signing‘.
But the Magpies have shown a willingness to revisit former targets, and it appears that the 23-year-old is back on the club’s radar.
It has been claimed that the Toon owners are willing to break the bank for the Frenchman, who is also attracting interest from his former club Paris Saint-Germain.
There has also been a story suggesting that Newcastle are going to target Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao instead of Diaby, although various other outlets believe that he is still an option for Dan Ashworth and co.

French football expert Jonathan Johnson thinks that is the case, and has provided an update on Diaby’s Bayer Leverkusen future.
Moussa Diaby expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen
Johnson has spoke to Caught Offside about Diaby potentially leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.
“The expectation is that Diaby will now get a move to a big European club, and there is a lot of interest from the Premier League, not just from Arsenal but from Newcastle United as well,” he said.
“He’s definitely one to watch and it has the potential to be a good few months ahead for him if he can guide Leverkusen to the Europa League final and then get a big move.”

‘One to watch’ for Newcastle
If Diaby is going to be on the move this summer, it would not be a surprise to see Newcastle make a move. £60million was deemed too much in 2022, but it has been claimed that he could be available for around £53million in 2023.
The Magpies are well placed to splash the cash this summer, especially if we qualify for the Champions League.
However, the threat of Arsenal is a major concern. A move to the Emirates will be massively appealing. They have the lure of living in London, Champions League football guaranteed, and there is still an outside chance of them lifting the Premier League title.
But Newcastle United is an appealing project too, and Diaby could be the missing piece of the attacking jigsaw at St James’ Park. He looks perfectly suited to the Premier League, and could form an outstanding partnership with Alexander Isak.
With the winger expected to move clubs, here’s hoping he heads to Tyneside.
