Newcastle United tried and failed to sign Moussa Diaby last summer, and are now going to make a fresh move for the 23-year-old. However, it looks like the Magpies will face competition from PSG.
It was recently claimed that Newcastle are interested in signing Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen, and are prepared to break their transfer record for him.
Whether or not that is necessary remains to be seen, with a recent report in Germany stating that Leverkusen officials want at least £53million for the winger.
That is a lot of money, but does not make Diaby out of reach for Newcastle. However, interest from PSG could be an issue.
Bild have stated that the Ligue 1 champions are keen, and that has been backed up by French outlet Foot Mercato. They state that PSG officials have already spoke to Diaby’s representatives about a move to the Parc des Princes.

PSG move will surely appeal to Moussa Diaby
Interest from PSG is a big concern – especially as Diaby probably feels like he has unfinished business there.
They sold him to Bayer Leverkusen in 2019, and he has since flourished in the Bundesliga. He has earned international recognition with France, while his ‘astonishing‘ performances have attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs.
Now PSG want him back, and that might be difficult for Diaby to turn down. He was born in Paris, and the chance to go back to his boyhood club must be massively tempting.

If that is the case, it will be the second summer in a row that the French side have hindered Newcastle’s transfer plans.
They snapped up Hugo Ekitike last year, despite the Magpies having a £26million bid accepted for the forward. He turned down a move to St James’ Park, and instead headed to Paris.
The move has not gone well and he is now being linked with a move away, but the decision massively impacted Newcastle’s summer activity last year.
It left the club scrambling for a forward, with the owners eventually breaking the bank to bring in Alexander Isak for a club record fee. That would suggest the Ekitike snub was a blessing in disguise, with the lure of PSG stopping him from heading to Tyneside.
Now they are keen to sign another Newcastle target in Diaby, and will no doubt believe the player’s emotional connection to the club will give them an advantage.
