Newcastle transfer news: How much Leverkusen want for Moussa Diaby

Newcastle United will have to make Moussa Diaby one of their most expensive signings ever if they want to bring him to St James’ Park this summer.

Diaby was a top target for Newcastle at the start of the season but proved to be too expensive. Now he is on the Magpies’ radar once again, when a move to Tyneside could be even more appealing.

Champions League football could be on its way to the North East, which will make us more desirable in the transfer market.

There will also be a desire to improve the squad massively, which is why a fresh approach for the Bayer Leverkusen winger is being rumoured.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are going to try to sign the Frenchman again, and are willing to break their transfer record to get him.

However, a new report from Germany suggests they might not even have to do that.

Bayer Leverkusen want to quadruple their money on Moussa Diaby

Bild have provided an update on Diaby’s future, and they also believe that Newcastle are interested in the 23-year-old. They also state that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are keen. Interestingly, the Ligue 1 champions were the ones who sold Diaby to Leverkusen in 2019.

He cost the German side around £13.2million four years ago, and that fee will play a part in how much the Leverkusen owners plan to sell him for.

The report from Bild states that Xabi Alonso’s side want to receive at least four times what they paid for Diaby back in 2019. That equates to around £53million.

That figure would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever, about £10million less than what Alexander Isak cost in total from Real Sociedad.

It is a huge amount of money, but perhaps slightly less than the Magpies are anticipating, given claims that they are willing to break their transfer record for him.

That sums up how keen Dan Ashworth is to bring Diaby to St James’ Park. The France international has previously been described as Newcastle’s ‘dream‘ signing, and that will hopefully become a reality this summer.
