‘Incredible’ Newcastle transfer target may have just proven why there are concerns about him

Newcastle United need to be wise with their recruitment this summer.

While the PIF era at Newcastle had been defined by astute additions up until last summer, things have changed since.

Indeed, Eddie Howe is believed to be pointing towards that as one of the reasons for his team’s Premier League malaise this this season.

The signing of Sandro Tonali has not worked out, albeit the club could scarcely have imagined the Italian’s ban from football when they signed him. They have been equally as unlucky in regards to fellow new arrival Harvey Barnes too, with the winger having suffered the kind of injury medical staff had never seen in football before.

Tino Livramento has been an excellent signing of course but Lewis Hall is yet to get much of a look-in despite the fact Newcastle seem set to announce his permanent addition at some point.

With that in mind, Newcastle have to get it right this summer.

Luckily, it seems one concern they have in regard to a target is well-founded.

Pedro Neto: Newcastle transfer target injured again

Wolves winger Pedro Neto has been frequently touted for a move to Newcastle.

The 23-year-old, hailed as “incredible” by manager Gary O’Neil, was even mooted as a potential upgrade on Miguel Almiron.

However, Neto’s injury record has also been mentioned. David Ornstein last month claimed his continued absences were a concern for buying clubs, such as the Magpies.

So then, it will have been of little surprise to see Neto go down injured again. The winger was forced off during their Premier League clash with Fulham on Saturday and O’Neil has since confirmed it was a hamstring issue.

According to Transfermarkt data, he’s missed 98 games during his time in England, which only began in 2019.

Pedro Neto to Newcastle: Not worth the risk

Newcastle can ill-afford another signing not working out. Growing pains in the PIF era are one thing but making repeated mistakes would be incredibly foolish and would likely pile more pressure on Howe next season if things aren’t going well.

An improvement is needed next season and new signings will have to work much more quickly for that to happen. Taking more risks would be unwise.

Neto has been in fine form this season but the repeated injuries are a concern.

Surely one to avoid.
