Hugo Ekitike is finally getting a new club on deadline day after snubbing Newcastle in 2022

Newcastle United need a striker, and suddenly Hugo Ekitike is on the move.

But while fans have pondered that maybe the Magpies could make a fresh move for the 21-year-old, he is not on his way to St James’ Park.

That was the case two years ago, and it is the case now.

But while he rejected Newcastle on transfer deadline day in 2022 (and then again the following summer), there has been no interest from Eddie Howe’s side this time.

That is despite Newcastle potentially needing a forward, with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both suffering from injury.

Hugo Ekitike was available on loan heading into transfer deadline day, with Paris Saint-Germain keen to move the youngster on. And now it looks like he finally going to get a new club after a rotten spell with the Ligue 1 giants.

Hugo Ekitike set to sign for Frankfurt on loan

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Hugo Ekitike is set to sign on loan for Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has stated on X that the Bundesliga club have an agreement in principle with PSG, and that the attacker is now on his way to Germany.

Newcastle are probably grateful Ekitike turned them down

It will be very interesting to see how Ekitike gets on at Frankfurt. He is clearly a player who Newcastle rate, and there were rumours last year that they could make a fresh approach for him.

However, they were disputed, and Newcastle have not turned to Ekitike in their time of need. That suggests that he has burnt his bridges with the Magpies, having turned them down twice in 2022.

But Newcastle are no worse off without Ekitike. His rejection in the summer of 2022 eventually led to the club splashing out on Alexander Isak. He is our club record signing, and has a strong claim at being considered the second best striker in the Premier League right now behind Erling Haaland.

There is no way you would have been able to say the same about Ekitike if he had arrived at St James’ Park, so Newcastle are probably grateful that he turned them down.
