What Marc Guehi’s agents are now doing as Newcastle attempt to sign Crystal Palace star

Marc Guehi looks like Newcastle United’s big transfer target this summer.

The England defender has been the subject of a big offer from Newcastle, one rejected by Crystal Palace.

While Guehi is said to be open to the move to St James’ Park and there is a confidence a deal can yet be done, he remains a Palace player as things stand.

Eddie Howe has already strengthened his defence after the signing of Lloyd Kelly but does not have either Jamaal Lascelles or Sven Botman around for the foreseeable future due to long-term injuries.

Having admitted his backline needed work upon the culmination of last season too, the pursuit of Guehi even after the signing of Kelly makes sense.

Still, actually getting a deal over the line does not look easy.

Now, more insight into the deal has emerged.

What Marc Guehi’s agents are now doing as Newcastle attempt to sign him

According to The Chronicle, Guehi’s agents have taken a step back from proceedings, knowing they cannot do much more to get their client a big move.

It is up to the two clubs to thrash out a deal now, with personal terms not thought to be much of an issue once a fee is agreed, although actually putting together a package to force Palace’s hand is easier said than done, of course.

Marc Guehi has already revealed his thoughts about Newcastle

Guehi has already played at St James’ this summer, representing England in a friendly win against Bosnia before Euro 2024.

Familiar with the ground through his time in the Premier League with Palace too, the 24-year-old actually gave a revealing answer when asked about his thoughts on Newcastle’s stadium.

Speaking back in June, Guehi was asked about his favourite stadium to play in, to which he responded: “I’d say in the Prem, probably Newcastle, St James’ Park.

“It’s just really, really loud in there. The fans make it really difficult when we go there so probably St James’ Park.”
