Newcastle United’s January transfer window plans could hinge on one man.

It is very clear that the Magpies need reinforcements. Newcastle United still need a winger and a centre-back, after failing to address either position during the summer transfer window.

Now January is looming, and the same issues are going to plague Toon officials. They are becoming the three most irritating letters on Tyneside – PSR.

Newcastle United will be in a much more comfortable position to strengthen their squad in January if they are able to sell someone, and that could be what what they are looking to do.

Newcastle are aiming to sell before they buy, which could result in the end of Miguel Almiron’s Toon career.

That is according to the Telegraph, who state that Newcastle United will look to sell Almiron when the January transfer window opens.

Newcastle are going to listen to offers for Almiron, who appears to be on the same page when it comes to his future.

The Telegraph add that Almiron is now keen to leave St James’ Park, as he prepares for his six-year anniversary as a Newcastle United player.

He joined Newcastle for a club record fee in January 2019, arriving from Atlanta United for £21million. Six years on, it feels like the end of the road.

What Miguel Almiron’s agent recently said

During Eddie Howe’s first full season as Newcastle United manager, Almiron was a key player.

He was playing the best football of his career, scoring 11 goals as the Magpies qualified for the Champions League.

Since then, his influence on Tyneside has waned. Almiron was in and out of the team last season, while he is now struggling for minutes.

The 30-year-old was an unused substitute on Monday night against West Ham, with Almiron making just seven appearances so far in total this season.

Howe is no longer relying on the Paraguayan, while his agent recently admitted that Almiron is unhappy with his lack of involvement.

“Although Miguel is not happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight for it at Newcastle,” Daniel Campos told TYC Sports.

“The coach [Eddie Howe] always supported him. When he made a request, he asked him not to leave. It must be a tactical or temporary issue.”

Newcastle have new right wingers on their radar

It looks as if there has been a change of heart from Almiron, after his agent said he wanted to ‘stay and fight’ for his place in the Newcastle team.

2025 is the right time for the two parties to go their separate ways. Newcastle United need more quality on that right flank, while Almiron needs regular minutes.

The Magpies have already been linked with some possible replacement, with Bryan Mbeumo seen as Newcastle’s dream signing.

Elsewhere, Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle are interested in Johan Bakayoko.
