How ‘angry’ Yoane Wissa is feeling about transfer as Newcastle United consider Rodrigo Muniz

Yoane Wissa missed Brentford training on Thursday amid Newcastle United’s transfer interest but the club are now considering Rodrigo Muniz, too.

Newcastle United have endured one of the worst transfer windows for a Champions League club in recent years, going backwards when they should have been pushing on after securing a place at Europe’s top table.

Instead, it’s been one disaster after another, with Newcastle missing out on several top targets and Alexander Isak making it clear he wants to leave.

Isak has been training at Real Sociedad this week while not on the pre-season tour of Asia, and he’s not the only wantaway striker not working with his teammates.

It’s been widely reported that Yoane Wissa did not train with Brentford on Thursday, despite attending at the training ground, amid his hope to follow Thomas Frank and Bryan Mbeumo out of the club.

Newcastle had a bid turned down for Wissa and are now considering Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz instead, after being put off by Brentford’s demand and seemingly missing out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.

However, Wissa reportedly is still holding out hope for a switch to St. James’ Park.

Yoane Wissa has not given up on Newcastle United transfer

Sky Sports’ Newcastle expert Keith Downie has reported on X, formerly Twitter, that Wissa is ‘angry’ and ‘disappointed’ with Brentford’s approach to Newcastle’s interest.

That prompted the striker to refuse to train with new manager Keith Andrews on Thursday, despite reporting to the training ground with the rest of his teammates.

Wissa is also said to have left the building before the rest of the squad.

Newcastle, it’s added, have seen a £25m bid turned down but have seemingly abandoned the chase due to Brentford’s high demands. The Bees did get £71m out of Man Utd for Mbeumo, after all.

Despite the current predicament, Wissa is still ‘hoping Newcastle haven’t given up on signing him.’

Should Newcastle sign Yoane Wissa or Rodrigo Muniz

Reports on Wednesday claimed Newcastle had made an ‘informal enquiry’ for Muniz to Fulham.

Though no official bids have been made, discussions have taken place between intermediaries. Yet, Fulham have faced interest for the Brazilian striker all summer and have not sold him yet.

The Cottagers turned down a bid from Leeds United in June, as they want to keep their striker and would want at least £50m if they had to let him go.

Muniz is a talented, physical striker who would suit Newcastle and, still just 24, has plenty of room to develop his game further.

However, Wissa scored more Premier League goals last season alone than Muniz has managed in two full seasons.

Wissa notched 19 strikes last term and has 45 top-flight goals in four seasons. Muniz is yet to make double figures in a campaign and has scored just 17 in total.

Even though Wissa is four years older, Newcastle need quality now and signing the Brentford man for less than Muniz makes much more sense.
