Fresh Marc Guehi transfer twist as Newcastle United offered new hope of bargain deal

Marc Guehi has long been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Guehi has emerged as one of the Premier League’s best defenders since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.

The 24-year-old was one of England’s starting centre-backs at Euro 2024 and was a key target for Eddie Howe shortly after. Newcastle failed to sign Guehi despite making a number of bids as Palace held firm over the defender.

However, Newcastle are still interested in Guehi, who is coming towards the end of his contract at Selhurst Park. The former Chelsea youngster is yet to sign a new deal and will be out of contract in the summer of 2026.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update.

Newcastle United offered fresh Newcastle United transfer hope

Taking to social media platform X on Saturday, Romano shared the very latest regarding Guehi’s situation at Palace.

The noted transfer expert confirmed Newcastle remained keen on signing the defender, although he also mentioned Chelsea and Tottenham as rival suitors.

Guehi is said to have been on their wish lists for months. Romano adds that the Palace star could actually even leave Selhurst on a free in 2026 if a deal cannot be agreed this summer.

Chelsea favourites to sign Marc Guehi

Landing a player who they reportedly bid around £65million for last summer would be a major coup for Newcastle, albeit they would had to have waited two years to actually land him in that event.

However, it seems the path is not clear when it comes to actually landing the defender.

TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently told Geordie Boot Boys that Chelsea lead Newcastle in the race to sign Guehi

He said: “I don’t see Marc Guehi joining Newcastle United, not from my understanding.

“I think he is still more likely to join Chelsea in the summer.”

Newcastle are interested in signing a new defender this summer and reports have linked them with the likes of Bournemouth star Illia Zabarnyi, Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande and Antonio Silva of Benfica as potential alternatives to Guehi.
