Newcastle United may be in a position to sign players this summer.
Eddie Howe has not seen his first-team squad at Newcastle United strengthened to any meaningful degree since the summer of 2023, with the club balancing the books in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
However, that could be in line to change this summer. Indeed, Newcastle insiders think they can buy players again soon, having sold talents such as Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson last summer.
As such, plenty of names have been linked with a move to St James’ Park. Marc Guehi remains a Newcastle target but Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on their pursuit of another defender involved in recent England squads.
Jarell Quansah’s future is back in the limelight.

Newcastle United interested in Jarell Quansah
Newcastle are interested in Quansah, who has struggled for a starting berth at Anfield given the form of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano provided further insight into Newcastle’s interest in the 22-year-old.
He claims that the Premier League champions are not actively looking to sell their academy graduate but Newcastle – along with a few teams in Germany – remain keen on his services.
Romano adds that the defender leaving the Merseyside giants is a “possibility” this summer.
Jarell Quansah compared to Marc Guehi
Newcastle could still move to sign Guehi this summer, having come close before the start of this season.
With that in mind, it’s perhaps worth looking at how the two compare.
It should be noted that Guehi has played much more football this season but, frankly the Crystal Palace star looks a much better option at this stage in his career.
| Stat (per game) | Marc Guehi | Jarell Quansah |
| Tackles | 1.8 | 0.9 |
| Interceptions | 0.8 | 0.5 |
| Clearances | 1.4 | 4.5 |
| Blocks | 0.6 | 0.7 |
That’s not to say Quansah would be a bad signing by any means but the statistics point to Guehi being the better signing.
As per WhoScored data, the Palace star beats Quansah in some key defensive metrics, including tackles, interceptions, clearances and blocks per game.
