Newcastle United could be set for a big summer.

Over the past few transfer windows, Newcastle United have struggled to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad due to being impacted by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

However, things could change come the end of the current season. Indeed, Newcastle insiders think they can spend this summer, while qualifying for the Champions League would surely see the club have more money to spend.

Newcastle could earn £17million by qualifying for the Champions League, which would no doubt help the Newcastle United manager in the transfer market this summer.

Plenty of names have been linked with a move to St James’ Park. Marc Guehi and James Trafford are two of them and Craig Hope of The Daily Mail has shared some interesting insight.

Newcastle United transfer news update on Marc Guehi and James Trafford

According to Hope, the signing of a new goalkeeper and a new central defender are the priorities for Newcastle heading into the summer window no matter what happens in regard to Champions League qualification.

Hope suggests supporters should watch developments surrounding Trafford and Guehi “very closely”.

After those positions are filled, a right-winger could be sought.

How Newcastle United could line up with James Trafford and Marc Guehi

Newcastle tried to sign Guehi last summer but failed in their attempts, though the sheer number of links since suggest the interest remains.

Furthermore, Newcastle have agreed personal terms with Trafford, so it would be fair to say they are keen on the Burnley goalkeeper.

Nick Pope is Newcastle’s current first-choice ‘keeper but perhaps Trafford is ready to replace him, having starred in the Championship this season.

Guehi, meanwhile, would surely come in as an instant starter. One of England’s leading centre-backs now, it would be a surprise to see him move to Newcastle only to sit on the bench.
