Newcastle United will surely look to strengthen their defence this summer.
While it’s difficult to be too critical of Newcastle United’s current options in the backline given what they’ve done this season, central defence is a slight concern.
Fabian Schar and Dan Burn may have been brilliant at times but are both over 30. Sven Botman, meanwhile, has struggled with injuries for what feels like an age now and Emil Krafth struggles to feature when everyone is fit.
Newcastle tried to sign Marc Guehi last summer but failed in their pursuit.
Though manager Eddie Howe has been able to paper over the cracks this season, Newcastle want to sign a new defender this summer.
To that end, Liverpool and England defender Jarell Quansah has been linked and some fresh insight into his future has now emerged.

Jarell Quansah transfer update amid Newcastle United interest
Newcastle are interested in signing Quansah this summer, although Liverpool were first thought to have had other ideas.
Reports from The Athletic last month claimed Liverpool want to keep Quansah but a new report from The Daily Mail hints at a potential U-turn in the situation.
They claim the 22-year-old is facing an “uncertain” future at Anfield amid interest from “external suitors”.
This season, the centre-back has made only two Premier League starts.
Jarell Quansah has big ambitions as Newcastle United linked with a move
Leaving Liverpool would be a hard decision for any player, particularly one to have emerged from their academy.
Still, Quansah wants to be considered one of the best players in the world and it would be hard to do that while playing a bit-part role on Merseyside.
Virgil van Dijk has just signed a new contract with the club, meaning there is only really one spot to fight for in Arne Slot’s first-team.
Quansah might back himself to claim that but hasn’t done so far.
Time is on his side but a move elsewhere, to a club where he might start on a more consistent basis, may help him achieve his goal of getting to the top of the game.
