Jarell Quansah could be a Newcastle United player already had the 2024 summer transfer window gone differently.
The Magpies tried to sign Jarell Quansah, as they scrambled to solve their PSR nightmare.
Newcastle United needed to raise funds to comply with PSR, which resulted in Anthony Gordon being offered to Liverpool.
In return, Toon officials wanted to sign Quansah. However, they were told by Liverpool that the defender was absolutely not for sale.
Newcastle nearly ended up with Joe Gomez, only for the Magpies to comply with PSR another way. Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson were sold, which meant Gordon did not join Liverpool and a Reds player did not move the other way.

Newcastle United plan fresh move to sign Jarell Quansah from Liverpool
Fast forward to 2025, and Newcastle are plotting a fresh move for Quansah.
That is according to the Times, who report that Newcastle think they can sign the 22-year-old if they offer £30million plus add-ons.
The Times add that ‘senior figures’ at St James’ Park support the idea of signing Quansah, as Paul Mitchell prepares to add a new centre-back to Eddie Howe’s squad.
After missing out on Marc Guehi and Abdukodir Khusanov, the Magpies need to secure Fabian Schar’s long-term replacement. That could be Quansah, with Newcastle keen to strike a deal with Liverpool.
£30million could be enough to land the young defender, as Mitchell attempts to lower the average age of Newcastle’s squad.
Newcastle United’s PSR position is much stronger
Newcastle’s 2025 pursuit of Quansah is very different to their 2024 approach. In 2024, they aimed to make an opportunity out of their desperation, as they attempted to comply with PSR.
That is not an issue in 2025, with Newcastle United in a much healthier financial position. There will be no scramble to raise funds ahead of June 30th this year, that is for sure.
The Magpies’ PSR position has been boosted by Miguel Almiron’s departure in January. It will then become even stronger once Lloyd Kelly’s loan move to Juventus becomes permanent.
Those deals have strengthened Newcastle’s position to invest – a position they have not been in for the past three transfer windows.
That should result in Eddie Howe’s squad becoming stronger, with centre-back set to be a key position that the club will target.
Quansah is on Newcastle’s radar, while there are other options out there. The Magpies have also been linked with Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi and Marc Guehi.
