Eddie Howe has now ‘reluctantly’ decided to sell Newcastle United player in January

Eddie Howe has been criticised for being too loyal at Newcastle United.

That has been a recurring theme over the past couple of years, with the Newcastle United squad failing to evolve.

Eddie Howe has stayed loyal to the players that have done well for him in the past, despite the Magpies’ need to sell.

It is well known that Newcastle United need to become better sellers if they are to really kick on, and that means that Howe needs to become more ruthless when it comes to letting players go.

And, in a month where Newcastle must sell before they buy, it looks like the Toon boss is set to do exactly that.

This is the third transfer window in a row in which Miguel Almiron’s Newcastle future has been uncertain.

He looks destined to leave St James’ Park this month, with the Newcastle United manager now green lighting a departure.

That is according to the Northern Echo, who report that Howe has ‘reluctantly’ agreed to sell Almiron during the January transfer window.

MLS side Charlotte FC are trying to sign Almiron, and the Northern Echo add that the 30-year-old could make the move early this month. That is because Charlotte FC would like to complete a deal before they start pre-season on January 12th.

Keeping Almiron would be a mistake for Newcastle

It would be unwise of Newcastle to keep Almiron, even if there are no guarantees of a replacement arriving.

The Magpies have proven this season that they can cope without Almiron. He has barely featured, with the Paraguayan starting just once in the Premier League.

It has been telling in recent games that Howe has been asking Harvey Barnes to play on the right ahead of Almiron when making substitutions in the second half.

With Jacob Murphy finding form and Joelinton and Anthony Gordon also capable of playing on the right, it is understandable that Howe has agreed to let Miggy go.

While the extra cover would be beneficial between now and the end of the campaign, it will help the club more in the long-run if the winger departs this month. It looks like that will now happen, as Almiron’s Newcastle United career edges towards its conclusion.
