Callum Wilson does not want to leave Newcastle United, despite rumours linking him with a move away this month.

The 31-year-old is one of multiple top stars who has been rumoured to be leaving Newcastle during the January transfer window, with the forward being offered to clubs by his agents for around £18million.

That led to talk that he could join West Ham or Chelsea, but Eddie Howe made it very clear on Monday that he believes that Wilson wants to remain on Tyneside. In fact, he admitted he was surprised by the speculation surrounding his number nine.

With not long to go in the January transfer window, it looks like Wilson will be staying at Newcastle United. That is the view of HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about the £20million man’s future.

Callum Wilson not expected to leave despite agent talk

“He’s not pushing to leave,” he said.

“He loves it at Newcastle, of course he does. He’s happy on Tyneside, and from what I understand he’s very much on the fence for getting on the plane for Euro 2024 with England this summer. He’s someone who Gareth Southgate likes a lot, but it might be quite difficult for him with the form of Dominic Solanke.

“I don’t see Wilson leaving. I think there are people behind the scenes from his camp pushing, but from Newcastle’s point of view it’s a no.”

Wilson should stay put

The majority of Premier League clubs would be lucky to have Callum Wilson. He is an excellent goalscorer, which is why Darren Bent would like to see him at Arsenal.

It is no surprise that there has been interest in the England international, but selling him would be a huge risk – unless another striker was guaranteed to come in.

For Wilson, he will get minutes in black and white if he is fit. He can dovetail brilliantly with Alexander Isak, and that will hopefully happen soon as he closes in on a return from injury.

With that in mind, it makes sense for Wilson to want to remain on Tyneside – especially if the chance to go to Euro 2024 is on the cards.
