Darren Bent is adamant Arsenal should sign 31-year-old Newcastle player right now

Callum Wilson and Newcastle United could potentially part ways within the next few days.

The 31-year-old is one of multiple Toon players who have been linked with leaving this month, alongside Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron.

Callum Wilson has been offered out to clubs by his agent, which led to interest from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. Now West Ham United are also keen, with Wilson seemingly available for around £18million.

Selling the striker for that amount would then allow Newcastle to reinvest, as they continue to scour the market for reinforcements. But it is a simple equation right now – it looks like they need to sell before they can buy.

That is why Wilson might be on his way out, and he would be a good addition to pretty much any Premier League side. He is a proven goalscorer in the top flight of English football, and that is why Darren Bent is adamant that he would be a great signing for Arsenal.

Darren Bent thinks Arsenal should sign Callum Wilson

Bent has been speaking on TalkSPORT about Wilson, and was asked if he would take Wilson at Arsenal.

“Yeah, for £20million,” he said.

“I’ll take that. 100%.

“If he’s fully fit [he would start]. He scores more goals than the other two, and that’s just fact.”

Newcastle striker is more prolific as of late than Arsenal duo

Bent is not wrong when he compares Wilson to Arsenal strikers Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. He has eight goals this season, while they have seven and six respectively. Those tallies are similar, but there is a clear gulf when you look at last season.

Wilson scored 18 in 36 games. Jesus scored 11 in 33 games. Nketiah scored nine in 39 games.

If he is fit, Wilson is a better goalscorer than what the Gunners have currently got. And they need a goalscorer right now, having dropped off in the race for the Premier League title.

Someone like Wilson could change Arsenal’s fortunes, and it would do the same for Newcastle. It would be a risk to sell him given our striker situation, but it would finally allow us to spend some money and make a new signing or two.
