Jamaal Lascelles’ future at Newcastle United is very much up in the air right now.
The 30-year-old has played brilliantly this season, coming into the side when Sven Botman was out injured. Jamaal Lascelles got the chance to rekindle his partnership with Fabian Schar, and can be very proud of how well he played.
The captain was involved in some famous wins for Newcastle United, producing wonderful displays against Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Manchester United.
But Lascelles is back on the bench following Botman’s return to fitness, while his contract is due to expire in the summer.
That has led to speculation over a move to Turkey, and HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that an exit could be on the cards during the final few days of the January transfer window.
Newcastle willing to let Jamaal Lascelles go
“It looks like they probably will let him go,” he said.
“That’s the message we’re getting. Besiktas are one of the teams that are interested.
“The injury situation is a lot better now. He’s out of contract in the summer and not getting a new one so if he wants to go now they’ll let him go.”

Letting Lascelles leave would be a risk for Newcastle
According to Bailey, Lascelles will be allowed to leave if that is what he wants. But whether that is what he wants remains to be seen.
There have been a lot of conflicting stories about the Toon skipper. It has been claimed in Turkey that Lascelles has asked to leave Newcastle, while the Chronicle have reported that he would like to stay.
If Lascelles did leave Newcastle, it would have to be seen as a risk. Obviously, Botman is back fit now, but we would be massively short if either him or Schar got injured. Dan Burn would have to play in the middle of defence, which would then lead to someone else having to play on the left.
But with one week to go before the transfer window closes, Lascelles’ future remains up in the air.
