Newcastle United have now received an official offer for one of their players who Eddie Howe is known to be a big fan of.
There’s not a lot of interest in the players who Newcastle are hoping to get rid of in the next six months, but there has been some interest in one of their backup defenders.
Journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has now shared the news that Besiktas have made a formal bid for club captain Jamaal Lascelles this month.
Newcastle could lose one of Howe’s favourites
Eddie Howe has been very vocal in his admiration of Lascelles who he says has been a real leader in the dressing room despite his lack of playing time.
When called upon after Sven Botman’s knee injury which kept the Dutchman out of action for three months, Lascelles slotted alongside Fabian Schar with ease and put in some solid performances.
The most notable is probably the 4-1 victory over PSG in which he notably slide tackled Kylian Mbappe which lifted the St James’ Park crowd towards the end of the game, which sure to be a highlight of his career.
Howe would likely be reluctant to lose someone like Lascelles not only because of the influence he holds over the rest of the Newcastle team, but also as he’s the only Premier League quality backup centre-back in the squad.

Newcastle risk being short of depth again
Unless the offer is a significant amount which would allow Newcastle to make some moves in the January transfer window, it makes little sense to sell a key figure and quality backup defender.
We’ve already seen how having little depth can cost this team massively having exited the Champions League and Carabao Cup because of a lack of fresh legs, so you’d imagine they have learned form their mistakes.
Besiktas have been interested in Lascelles for a couple of weeks now with the former Nottingham Forest man only having six months left on his current Newcastle contract, though it’s likely Howe will try to tie him down soon.
