Newcastle United have been massively hindered by their ongoing injury crisis, but it is not all bad news according to Dan Burn.
The 31-year-old, who has recently recovered from a back injury himself, believes there actually has been a positive side to Newcastle United being without so many players.
He believes that it has led to other players getting an opportunity, and he is so pleased to see the likes of Jamaal Lascelles get the chance to prove just how good they are.
The 30-year-old has been a Newcastle regular once again for the first time since the early days of Eddie Howe’s tenure on Tyneside, and the captain has slotted seamlessly back into the side. If anything, he has been better than ever.
That has delighted Dan Burn, who has spoke about the skipper to former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster on his podcast.
Dan Burn delighted to see Jamaal Lascelles play so well
Burn has appeared on ‘Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast’ and discussed how Newcastle’s injury crisis has given players like Jamaal Lascelles a chance to feature.
“It’s been tough but it’s good at the same time,” he said.
“There’s some of the lads who haven’t played many minutes have come in and people have seen how good they actually are. Lads who were here before the takeover who everyone would have thought would be out the door.
“I’m really happy for them. People like Jamaal Lascelles coming in and playing as well as he has done. Us knowing that he can do that. Unbelievable. He’s a real leader in the team.”

Newcastle United captain has stepped up
With Sven Botman missing so much football due to a knee injury, it has been a real blessing to have Lascelles playing so well.
He has been outstanding in recent months, and deserves a huge amount of praise for what he has achieved after spending so long on the sidelines.
It must have been challenging for Lascelles, who still retained the captaincy despite not being deemed good enough to play.
He has certainly been good enough during this run, but it is a run that might be coming to an end.
That is because Botman is now back from injury, with the 23-year-old featuring off the bench during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Fulham at St James’ Park.
