Eddie Howe really likes ‘superb’ Liverpool midfielder who has been offered to Newcastle

Newcastle United have passed up the chance to make Lee Clark’s dream come true.

Lee Clark made more than 250 appearances across two spells for Newcastle United, and now wants his son to follow in his footsteps.

Bobby Clark is at Liverpool, having left Newcastle United in 2021 during the dying embers of the Mike Ashley era. Seeing him leave was a real low moment, and it summed up how desperate things were at every level under Ashley.

The ‘superb‘ 19-year-old has since gone on to make his senior debut for Liverpool, while his dad Lee has admitted that he would love Bobby to return to Newcastle United.

Newcastle United offered Bobby Clark

And that dream could have became a reality this summer, with Bobby Clark’s Liverpool future set to be decided.

The midfielder looks set to leave Anfield, but will not be on his way back to St James’ Park.

That is according to the Chronicle, who report that Newcastle United have been offered the chance to re-sign Clark, three years after he left the club.

However, it does not sound like Newcastle will be taking up that offer, with Red Bull Salzburg leading the race to sign the teenager.

The Chronicle add that the Magpies will not benefit financially from Clark leaving Liverpool, as there was no sell-on clause included in the £1.5million deal that saw him leave Newcastle United in 2021.

How Eddie Howe feels about Liverpool teenager

The lack of a sell-on clause is just another mistake from the Ashley era that Newcastle are going to suffer from.

And it is a shame that a return is not on the cards, as we always want to see local lads playing for the club and wearing those famous black and white stripes.

It seems like a timing issue when it comes to Clark, rather than concerns over his talent.

That is because the Chronicle add that Eddie Howe is a fan of Clark and is going to continue keeping an eye on his progress.

Newcastle’s priorities lie elsewhere

If Newcastle had got the rest of their business wrapped up and money was not an issue, you would like to think they would at least consider bringing Clark back to Tyneside.

However, that simply is not the situation that the Magpies find themselves in.

With less than three weeks to go, Newcastle still need to sign a centre-back and a winger. They were the club’s two priorities at the start of the summer, and they are still yet to land either.

There is hope that one position could be filled soon, with Newcastle making a third offer for Marc Guehi. When it comes to a winger, Newcastle are interested in Noni Madueke from Chelsea.

But deals could be dependent on others leaving, as PSR continues to cause Newcastle problems. With that in mind, a Toon return for Clark is out of the question.
