Former Newcastle United player Lee Clark wants his son to ‘do an Alan Shearer’ and play for the Magpies at some point in his career.

Lee Clark is the father of Bobby Clark, who has been turning heads in recent weeks following his emergence at Liverpool.

The 19-year-old played a key role in the Reds winning the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea last month, and is getting more and more opportunities at senior level. He has made 11 first-team appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once and proving two assists.

The teenage midfielder is part of an exciting crop of young talent at Liverpool, but his recent performances serve as a painful reminder for Newcastle United fans.

Clark was actually part of the Toon academy system earlier in his career, but opted to leave in the summer of 2021. He was no longer enjoying his football at Newcastle, and got the chance to sign for Liverpool and play for Jurgen Klopp.

It was obviously a chance he took, and now he is reaping the rewards.

However, his dad has made it clear that he would love to see him return to Newcastle at some point in his career and wear the famous black and white stripes, just like he did.

Lee Clark dreams of Bobby Clark playing for Newcastle United

That is what Lee Clark said when he was asked if he still dreams of seeing his son play for Newcastle United during an appearances on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

“Absolutely,” he said.

“I don’t know how many fathers and sons have done it for the club. I was lucky enough to do it 265 times.

“Who knows, he might have to do an Alan Shearer and come back. But yeah, that would be my ultimate dream. Definitely.”

Letting him join Liverpool is Newcastle’s final regret of the Mike Ashley era

It would be amazing if we could see Clark back at Newcastle in the future. It is so disappointing seeing him shine at Liverpool, knowing that he was ours and we let him go. It feels like the final regret of the Mike Ashley era, which sucked the life out of the club.

Given the state of Newcastle at the time of Clark’s departure, it is understandable why he left. And he will not regret his decision, given how well he is doing currently.

But his father still has hope that Bobby could play for Newcastle one day. It happened with Alan Shearer, as he says. He did not come through the Toon academy, but eventually made his way to St James’ Park and became a club legend.

Here’s hoping that Bobby Clark can do the same one day and leave Liverpool for a Newcastle United comeback.
