Newcastle United have discussed transfer targets internally ahead of the summer transfer window.
Following 12 months of inactivity, fans can finally rejoice that Paul Mitchell will be able to spend more freely in the summer.
Plans for the summer are being drawn up and while a definitive list of targets is yet to be drawn up, Eddie Howe knows what positions he wants to improve for next season.
Newcastle will sign younger players in the summer rather than big names which could put a bigger dent in the transfer kitty and the club’s wage budget. Howe is keen to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen after missing out on him last summer.
Huijsen is linked with a £50m move to Newcastle after enjoying a sensational start to life in England, helping the Cherries up to fifth in the Premier League.
With Newcastle already discussing targets internally, Huijsen has now stated whether he would be open to joining the Magpies in this summer.

Dean Huijsen’s message amid Newcastle interest
Huijsen has taken his chance to shine at Bournemouth with both hands and is reaping the benefits. Last summer, Newcastle were one of several clubs eyeing a move for the youngster who decided a move to the South Coast was his best option.
Newcastle have the finances for Huijsen following a sensible year that barely saw them spend in their last three transfer windows.
According to inews, Huijsen is open to joining Newcastle in the summer but has clarified that European football is a priority. The Magpies currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, which would give them a spot in the Europa Conference League – presently a step down for the 19-year-old.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 5 | 25 | 12 | 7 | 6 | 44 | 29 | 15 | 43 | |
| 6 | 25 | 12 | 7 | 6 | 47 | 34 | 13 | 43 | |
| 7 | 25 | 12 | 5 | 8 | 42 | 33 | 9 | 41 | |
| 8 | 25 | 10 | 9 | 6 | 38 | 33 | 5 | 39 |
The report states that Bournemouth feels like Huijsen’s departure is ‘inevitable’ as five other clubs join Newcastle as realistic suitors.
As well as Huijsen, another potentially elite right-winger who will be available is understood to be open to a move to Newcastle but only if they are in the Champions League in 2025. While the report does not specifically name the player, one would speculate that it could be either Bryan Mbeumo or Johan Bakayoko who have both been linked with moves to Tyneside in recent months.

Huijsen’s stance is a clear message to Howe and Mitchell who are already working on bringing one new face to Tyneside.
Antonio Cordero is set to join Newcastle after holding talks with Mitchell. It is believed that Cordero will snub Spanish Giants Barcelona and Real Madrid to sign for the Magpies. Elsewhere, Vakhtang Salia agreed to join Newcastle in 2024 and will officially join the club in August when he turns 18.
Dean Huijsen compared to Newcastle defenders
At 19, Huijsen has bags of potential. The same inews report referred to the Spaniard as ‘limitless’, referencing comments from someone who has closely monitored his progress.
Huijsen is competent with both feet meaning he can play as a left or right-sided centre-back whenever required. Newcastle are in desperate need of more depth at the back following Lloyd Kelly’s move to Juventus which coincidentally was to replace Huijsen.
| Age | Appearances (League) | Tackles/90 | Interceptions/90 | Passes/90 | |
| Dean Huijsen | 19 | 19 | 1.2 | 1.6 | 43.3 |
| Dan Burn | 32 | 24 | 0.8 | 0.3 | 52.8 |
| Fabian Schar | 33 | 21 | 1.4 | 0.9 | 58.2 |
| Sven Botman | 25 | 3 | 1.7 | 1.3 | 42.7 |
The defender’s ability at his age makes him a hot target for clubs who are looking for a defender to utilise in their backline for several years. Newcastle already have Sven Botman as a replacement for Dan Burn and now needs someone to take the reigns from Fabian Schar when the time comes.
Although he would have cost much less in the summer, £50m still seems like a fair price to pay for someone of Huijsen’s quality.
