If Newcastle United want to sign Moussa Diaby, now might be their only chance.

Diaby was a major target for the Magpies last summer, but he proved to be too expensive. However, rumours surrounding the Frenchman have continued.

It was suggested that Newcastle would break the bank to sign the 23-year-old ahead of next season, but that has not proven to be the case so far. Instead, it has been claimed that the Bayer Leverkusen winger is simply too expensive.

But Eddie Howe’s side continue to be linked with Diaby, who would be a real statement of intent if he were to arrive at St James’ Park.

Newcastle are currently looking to sign a winger, and Diaby is someone who can play on either flank. Of course, he would be a very expensive addition, but all roads appear to be leading towards Diaby heading to the Premier League in the near future – whether that is to Newcastle or somewhere else.

Moussa Diaby available for £51million

According to Bild in Germany, Diaby is looking to join a club in England or return to Paris Saint-Germain this summer. They state that Leverkusen want at least £51million for the France international, and have already lined up a replacement.

The Bundesliga side are set to sign Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Monchengladbach, who will take Diaby’s place on the right of attack.

That appears to open the door for Diaby to leave the BayArena, and possibly achieve his dream of playing in the Premier League.

The report states that Newcastle remain interested, so hopefully the club seize this opportunity and make a move.

As always, it all depends on money. A deal worth £51million would make the ‘dangerous‘ Diaby one of Newcastle’s costliest signings ever, and could hinder our ability to strengthen the squad further ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign.

But he is a dream signing, and it would be a great shame if he does make a move to a different Premier League club to achieve his ambition of playing in England.
