Harvey Barnes is back on Newcastle United’s radar, a month after it was claimed that the Magpies were no longer keen.
The Leicester City winger has been a Toon target for the past 12 months, alongside Newcastle’s interest in James Maddison.
But while Maddison has now left to join Tottenham, Barnes is still with the Foxes and eyeing up an immediate return to the Premier League.
He was linked with a summer move earlier in the year, but it then transpired that Newcastle were withdrawing their interest. This was because of the club’s plans for Anthony Gordon, who is expected to have a breakout year at St James’ Park.
But now Eddie Howe is back on the trail of Barnes, with multiple outlets claiming that he is once again a target for the Magpies.

Newcastle eye low risk Harvey Barnes deal
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are interested in signing Barnes from Leicester, with Howe keen on a deal for the 25-year-old.
There are other Premier League clubs chasing his signature, however, with Tottenham and West Ham also credited with an interest. The Telegraph state that Barnes is viewed as a ‘low-risk’ signing by Premier League clubs, due to his experience with Leicester.
He has been developed into an ‘unbelievable‘ player for the Foxes since his emergence at the King Power Stadium, proving to be a consistent source of goals and assists. Last season was his best in front of goal, finding the net 13 times in the Premier League. Sadly, it was not enough for his side to avoid relegation.

But it could be enough to secure him a move, and Newcastle are interested as Howe looks to add a new left winger to his squad ahead of next season.
Barnes certainly is a low risk player who would add more depth to Howe’s squad, but it will simply come down to the price. The Magpies are not going to pay over the odds, although it might be tricky to negotiate a bargain deal with other clubs interested.
