Newcastle transfer news: Toon officials confident they can negotiate Diaby deal

Newcastle United are still trying to complete a deal for Moussa Diaby, as Eddie Howe looks to boost his attacking options.

The Frenchman is the club’s main forward target, with the Magpies looking to sign a winger and a striker before the transfer window closes.

There has been talk surrounding a club record deal for Alexander Isak, but Diaby reportedly remains the club’s priority.

However, the 23-year-old’s asking price remains an issue.

How much Leverkusen want for Moussa Diaby

If Newcastle are going to sign Diaby from Leverkusen, it will likely cost a club record fee. Our current most expensive signing is Joelinton, who cost £40million in 2019.

A deal for Diaby would likely be worth more than that, and for good reason. He is an exceptional footballer and the kind of player who could take us to the next level.

His performances in Germany last season were sensational. He provided 25 goal contributions as Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga.

That’s why they want a huge fee for the France international. The Northern Echo state that he is valued at just shy of £51million. But Newcastle think that figure is too much.

Newcastle believe they can negotiate a cheaper deal

While Leverkusen have named their price, Newcastle reportedly believe the price can be lowered.

According to the Northern Echo, the Toon recruitment team are confident they can negotiate a lower transfer fee for Diaby.

How much lower remains to be seen. Leverkusen don’t need to sell, and are looking forward to returning to the Champions League. On top of that, Diaby doesn’t appear to be angling for a move.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are willing to pay £40million for Diaby, but that amount isn’t enough. Hopefully a compromise can be reached and he becomes a Toon player.

Diaby, who has been described as ‘incredibly dangerous‘ is the type of player that fans are dreaming of. It would be a similar calibre deal to the Bruno Guimaraes signing, and he has been an absolute revelation in black and white.

Signing Diaby is proving to be trickier, but Newcastle still have time on their hands. The Toon owners aren’t giving up, and will make one final push to secure his signature.
