Chelsea now want to sign £20m player who really impressed Newcastle scouts last season

Chelsea are on course to beat Newcastle United in the race to sign Axel Disasi, and now the Blues could make a move for another Toon target.

Disasi had been linked with joining the Magpies, but he now looks set to sign for Mauricio Pochettino, who still wants further additions before the transfer window closes.

The West London side are looking for midfield reinforcements, and continue to chase Brighton superstar Moises Caicedo. He is someone who Newcastle previously wanted, but the Seagulls’ asking price ensured that a deal was not possible. The fee they want makes Sandro Tonali look like a bargain.

But Caicedo is not the only midfielder who Chelsea are looking at, and a new report from the Times suggests that they could move for another player who is on Eddie Howe’s radar.

Chelsea are now interested in Tyler Adams

According to the Times, Chelsea have added Leeds United’s Tyler Adams to their list of midfield targets. He now features alongside the likes of Caicedo, Edson Alvarez and Romeo Lavia.

Adams is a player who Chelsea are now considering, and he is someone who is available for a relatively reasonable fee. It was recently reported that the USA international has a relegation release clause which means he can be bought for around £20million.

That figure would appeal to Chelsea, and it should also appeal to Newcastle, who have also been linked.

The Leeds United midfielder is also on Newcastle’s radar

The 24-year-old was mentioned as a Toon target before the club bought Tonali. At that point, Newcastle were looking towards relegated players in the hope that they could get a bargain.

Adams was someone who caught Newcastle’s attention, with Toon scouts really impressed with the American when he played at St James’ Park last season. He certainly enjoyed his visit to Tyneside, calling it his favourite away game during his first year in English football.

He is a player who has the talent to continue in the Premier League, and it speaks volumes that Chelsea are now considering him as a possible signing. And if they do make a move, he could become another player who the Blues have landed ahead of us.

Right now, midfield is not a priority for Newcastle. Howe is looking for defensive reinforcements, which means any move for Adams will have to wait.

That could leave the door open for Chelsea, who have proven themselves to be swift operators in the transfer market at times.
