Newcastle United have been sent a clear message about Bryan Mbeumo.
The Magpies are heavily linked with the Brentford attacker, as Paul Mitchell prepares to add a new right winger to Eddie Howe’s squad.
Newcastle would love to sign Mbeumo, but are concerned that he could be too expensive.
The 25-year-old is expected to cost more than £60million, which is no surprise given the season he has had for Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo has scored 18 goals and provided eight assists, with his latest contribution coming in Brentford’s 4-3 win over Manchester United.

Brentford chief Phil Giles speaks out on Bryan Mbeumo’s future
Newcastle fans would love to sign Mbeumo.
He looks like the perfect candidate to join Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack at St James’ Park, especially with Champions League football potentially returning to Tyneside.
Mbeumo is capable of playing at that level, with Brentford director of football Phil Giles admitting to BBC Sport that he understands why clubs will be looking at the Cameroon international – as well as his teammate Yoane Wissa.
However, Giles insists that there are not many clubs in world football that can afford Mbeumo.
“I have a lot of insight but that doesn’t mean I will talk about it,” he said.
“No, in general, if I was looking at a striker or a wide player as another club then they have to be on a shortlist, you would imagine.
“But the number of clubs that can sign them is a small number worldwide so time will tell if a club has that need or requirement. At the moment, we are pretty relaxed.”
Newcastle United face competition for Bryan Mbeumo
Newcastle United will hope they are one of the clubs that are capable of tempting Brentford into a sale.
That might depend on the Magpies’ other transfer objectives. Newcastle want three key signings, with Mitchell eyeing a winger, a centre-back and a goalkeeper. Howe would also like to sign a striker, with Liam Delap a target for Newcastle.
The Magpies will have to use a large portion of their budget if they are to sign Mbeumo, while there is also the threat of competition from elsewhere.
Manchester United want Mbeumo too, which could give Brentford the chance to drive the price up.
As it stands, Brentford are relaxed about their talisman’s future. They either receive a seismic fee, or they retain their best player.
