Bournemouth hand Newcastle United a silver lining despite Chelsea stealing march on Dean Huijsen

Newcastle United may ultimately miss out on Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen but the news coming out of Bournemouth is not all bad.

Indeed, Newcastle United have been linked with all manner of players, and clearly not every single one of them can join – including Huijsen.

In fact, Newcastle are just one of the teams interested in Huijsen, who has a number of clubs tracking him.

Recent reports suggest Chelsea are now leading the race to sign Huijsen, which would obviously be a blow on Tyneside.

However, the defender is not the only Bournemouth player to have been linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Teammate Antoine Semenyo – hailed as an “absolute star” by Jamie Redknapp on Premier League Productions – has also been touted as a target.

Now, an update on his future has emerged.

Antoine Semenyo update amid Newcastle United transfer interest

Newcastle have been strongly linked with Semenyo as they look to finally sign a new option on the right wing.

The Ghana international is able to operate on both flanks of course and has scored eight goals while registering five assists in 32 Premier League games this season.

Manchester United have also been linked with Semenyo, who seemingly may follow Huijsen out the door.

According to The Independent, the Cherries expect him to leave the club this summer.

Is Antoine Semenyo left or right footed?

Eddie Howe has confirmed he values players with versatility and Semenyo certainly fits the bill.

Semenyo is right-footed, allowing him to play on either flank.

Still, Newcastle have had huge success in playing the right-footed Jacob Murphy on his natural side this season, so it stands to reason they’d at least try something similar if they were to sign a player of Semenyo’s profile this summer.

Anthony Gordon has been a revelation in cutting in from the left on his favoured right foot but there’s little reason Newcastle have to copy that on the opposite side.
