Newcastle United have been linked with a move for a talented Premier League winger, but their Premier League rivals are leading the race.
After the January transfer window, it became clear that the right wing was in need of improvement.
Miguel Almiron left Newcastle United in favour of a return to MLS side Atlanta United, ending his six-year stay on Tyneside.
The 31-year-old is not the only winger to leave the club in the past six months; Yankuba Minteh left Newcastle to ensure the Magpies dodged a points deduction ahead of the Premier League season. The Gambian international has performed brilliantly for Brighton, even scoring against his former club in the FA Cup.
Thankfully, Jacob Murphy’s brilliant form for Newcastle has made the lack of right-sided attackers less of a problem this season, but sporting director Paul Mitchell is still keen on bringing at least one new face in to give that area of the squad more depth.
The Magpies have been linked with a move for one player, who could cost upwards of £70m this summer. However, a new report has stated that they are not leading the race to sign him.

Manchester United leading race for Antoine Semenyo amid Newcastle links
Bournemouth ace Antoine Semenyo has had a breakout season in the Premier League after signing from Bristol City in 2023.
So far this campaign, the 25-year-old has scored eight goals and bagged four assists in the Premier League, helping Bournemouth towards one of the final European spots.
Newcastle are interested in Semenyo, but have been told that they must pay around £70million for him this summer. If the Magpies were to give in to Bournemouth’s demands, Semenyo would become the club’s most expensive player.
However, according to Sky Sports News, Manchester United are currently the front-runners for Semenyo this summer. The report suggests that head coach Ruben Amorim is thought to be a big admirer of the Ghana international and has ideas about how to deploy him in an updated attacking line-up next season.
While they may be front-runners, the report suggests that Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in the 25-year-old.
Newcastle United have already signed a right-winger
Semenyo caused havoc at St James’ Park in January during Bournemouth’s 4-1 win against Newcastle. The winger claimed he ‘knew’ how his opponents would play and looked to exploit that.
While the summer transfer window is expected to be a busy one, Newcastle have done some of their dealings early and have even signed a winger already.

Antonio Cordero has agreed to join Newcastle from Malaga on a free transfer this summer. The 18-year-old has impressed in the Segunda Division this season, scoring five goals and bagging five assists.
Newcastle plan to loan Cordero out for his first season at the club, with a move to Dutch giants Ajax reportedly on the cards.
Despite that, Newcastle will still look to sign a winger this summer to immediately bolster their options.
