Newcastle United need to sign at least one striker this summer and have already held talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Calvert-Lewin has held talks with Newcastle after leaving Everton on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.

Thus far, those talks haven’t gone anywhere but Newcastle do desperately need attacking reinforcements.

Indeed, Eddie Howe wanted to add a new striker to the Newcastle United squad even before Alexander Isak asked to leave the club.

Callum Wilson has already left St James’ Park, leaving William Osula as the only senior striker who seems certain to play for the club next season.

Calvert-Lewin has been of long-standing interest on Tyneside, but may have another big Premier League club chasing his services in Aston Villa.

Aston Villa interested in Dominic Calvert-Lewin

According to The Sun, Villa have asked Calvert-Lewin’s representatives about his salary demands.

The report claims that Newcastle and AC Milan are both interested in the 28-year-old.

Villa are considering adding the 11-cap England international to their squad as they battle to keep Ollie Watkins at the club.

Newcastle have been linked with Watkins, while Manchester United are also said to be keen.

Why Newcastle United could beat Aston Villa to Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The idea of Calvert-Lewin replacing Isak at Newcastle is, at best, underwhelming.

Still, there is some logic in signing him as long as either Isak stays, or a big-name replacement is found.

The former Sheffield United youngster is an experienced Premier League operator and wouldn’t need to start every week in that event, which may help limit some of his injuries.

Newcastle could hold a key advantage over Villa, should it come down to it.

Indeed, Calvert-Lewin wants to play Champions League football and clearly Newcastle can offer that. Villa can’t.
