Antonio Cordero looks set to become a Newcastle United player very soon.

As of Saturday morning, Cordero still has one game left to play at Malaga this season but, after that, is widely expected to join Newcastle United

Newcastle have signed Cordero on a pre-contract and the 18-year-old could even prove the final addition of the short Paul Mitchell era on Tyneside.

Sporting director Mitchell is set to leave Newcastle at the end of June, by which time Cordero could already be a Newcastle player.

Indeed, Cordero is expected to officially join Newcastle in June, after Malaga finish for the season.

The 18-year-old helped them retain their safety in the Spanish second tier, scoring six goals while providing seven assists in 39 appearances before the season finale.

They hosted Burgos on the final day of the season and, prior to the game, Cordero posted what could be a goodbye.

Antonio Cordero appears to say goodbye to Malaga squad before Newcastle United move

On Friday, the teenager uploaded a photo onto his Instagram story

It was a picture of the Malaga squad posing before their final game of the campaign, captioned: “The last dance”.

Cordero reposted the image but accompanied it with three crying eyes emojis, ahead of what looked to be his final game for the club as a permanent member of the team.

Malaga will make instant Antonio Cordero demand of Newcastle United

Malaga are interested in re-signing Cordero on loan after his move to Newcastle becomes official.

Ajax are also interested in Cordero, although it remains to be seen what the Newcastle United coaching staff make of him.

To expect anyone to make the leap from the Spanish second tier to the Premier League seems ambitious at least.

Still, it will be important for Eddie Howe to get a look at him up close in training before any decision on his immediate future is made.

Hopefully, Mitchell has left Newcastle with a real gem for the future…
