Newcastle United fans have had to deal with their best players being linked with moves away from the club for what feels like an age now.
Despite never actually selling one of their key stars during the PIF era, there are plenty of links touting Newcastle United’s prized assets for a move away.
Eddie Howe isn’t happy about that. In fact, Howe confirmed he was frustrated that Newcastle’s best players keep being linked with moves away from the club, with the Newcastle United manager instead looking to add to his squad.
Still, it seems there’s still talk Anthony Gordon could leave the club this summer.

Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon
Gordon signed a new contract at Newcastle in October 2024 but has endured a strange season.
The 24-year-old has scored nine goals while registering seven assists, but he lost his place in the team to Harvey Barnes after Gordon was sent off for Newcastle against Brighton in the FA Cup.
That ruled him out of the Carabao Cup final, while a thigh injury sustained while playing for England in March further derailed his progress.
According to iNews, there are “whispers” amongst recruitment circles that suggest the former Everton forward is facing an uncertain future at St James’ Park.
It’s claimed that while Newcastle insist he’s not for sale, both Arsenal and Chelsea are understood to be interested in signing him.
Anthony Gordon stats this season compared to last season
Gordon’s statistics do not compare favourably to his output from last season.
Newcastle value Gordon at around £100million but he’s certainly not playing like a player of that stature this time around.
The 2024-25 campaign has brought fewer goals and assists. While his injury issues should be factored in, he’s also contributing fewer dribbles and key passes per game.
| Stat | 2023-24 season | 2024-25 season |
| Goals | 11 | 6 |
| Assists | 10 | 5 |
| Dribbles/90 | 1.5 | 1.1 |
| Shots/90 | 2.3 | 1.8 |
| Key passes/90 | 1.6 | 1.5 |
Newcastle fans slated Gordon for his performance against Arsenal and it’s easy to see why. He looked way off it and made the mistake leading up to Declan Rice’s goal.
Unless he steps up against Everton later this week, you’d have to say this has been a very disappointing season for Gordon.
