Newcastle United are still keen on signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest this summer after missing out on him in 2024.

The Magpies are very eager to bring in fresh faces this summer, with Anthony Elanga surely highly on Paul Mitchell’s list of transfer targets.

Nottingham Forest rejected Newcastle United’s deadline-day bid for Elanga in 2024 after the Magpies lost Yankuba Minteh a couple of months prior due to PSR concerns.

Newcastle’s problems with depth on the right wing have persisted throughout the season, with Jacob Murphy getting more game time. Miguel Almiron was also an option until the January transfer window, where he left the club after six years for a return to Atlanta United.

While depth has been an issue, Murphy’s excellent performances for Newcastle have made it much less of a problem this season.

Murphy overtook Elanga’s Premier League attacking returns earlier this season, but Mitchell is still believed to be keen on bringing the Swede to Tyneside.

With Elanga’s future still up in the air, a recent exchange with Toon player William Osula has added more fuel to the transfer links.

Anthony Elanga asks for invite to Newcastle United meal

This season has seen Elanga interact with Newcastle players on several occasions. Most recently, Elanga congratulated Osula after scoring his first Premier League goal since joining the Magpies last summer.

Elsewhere, Elanga messaged Alexander Isak after Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win in March, which his fellow Sweden international scored in.

Now, the 23-year-old has returned to social media. This time taking to TikTok to comment on a new video from Osula, which shows him eating food with Isak and Joe Willock.

Elanga commented: “Where’s my invite bro?”

In response, Osula said: “Anytime my bro join us.” The comment also had a laughing face and handshake emoji, perhaps suggesting Osula’s comment was more than just inviting him to a meal.

While it is clear that there is interest from at least one party, fans have to wait another month before seeing what Mitchell decides to do regarding Elanga.

The right wing will be one of several positions Newcastle want to bolster this summer, but it may not be Elanga that fills the void in that position.

In a recent interview, Elanga said he is ‘happy’ at Nottingham Forest, but admitted his good form means there are teams who will be eager to speak with him over a potential move.

Alan Shearer was stunned by Elanga after he scored a sensational solo goal against his former club, Manchester United. The failure to land him last summer is a move Newcastle have lived to regret, but they can make things right by signing him in 2025.
