Anthony Elanga sends seven-word message to Alexander Isak after Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final win

Alexander Isak cemented himself as a Newcastle United legend on Sunday.

Already surely the best striker Newcastle United have had since Alan Shearer, Isak did something even the biggest club legend around could not manage.

Indeed, the superstar Swede scored a goal in a major domestic cup final for the club as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup.

Isak’s second-half strike is ultimately what won Eddie Howe’s side the Carabao Cup final. Dan Burn had opened the scoring and Isak’s fine finish made it 2-0 before a late Federico Chiesa goal for Liverpool made things tense.

Still, Newcastle deservedly got over the line to change the narrative. No longer are they on the kind of trophy drought rival fans joke about, seventy years of domestic hurt are over.

This is big news in the context of the English game. So much so that even Anthony Elanga took note.

Anthony Elanga sends message to Alexander Isak after Newcastle United win Carabao Cup final

Newcastle tried to sign Elanga from Nottingham Forest last summer but predictably failed in their late pursuit of the forward.

Still, the Forest star sent his congratulations to his teammate.

Elanga, of course, plays with Isak at international level for Sweden and was keen to stress the Newcastle star shouldn’t celebrate too much given the national team have World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland to come later this month.

“Längesennnn [long time]!!!! Enjoy, just don’t be late tomorrow,” he wrote.

That’s certainly a brutal reminder about the calendar in modern football…

Alexander Isak’s brilliant statement after Newcastle United win Carabao Cup final

Isak believes winning the Carabao Cup is just the start for Newcastle, who have ambitions to win all manner of trophies.

With a player as good as the 25-year-old in the ranks, that feels possible. Isak is world class and to do it on the biggest stage was another reminder of his quality.

The striker has been linked away and that has been frustrating to read. Having won something at Newcastle and with Champions League qualification in sight, there is surely little reason to leave now.

Newcastle is the best place for Alexander Isak.
