Another summer transfer target is set to pass Newcastle United by.
It has been a frustrating summer for the Magpies, with Paul Mitchell yet to truly make his mark as sporting director.
That could be about to change, with Will Osula set to join Newcastle from Sheffield United. He is a 20-year-old striker who the Magpies think has a lot of potential, with Mitchell pushing for Newcastle to sign Osula.
He will provide depth in attack, but will mainly be viewed as one for the future. Newcastle still need to make major additions, with Eddie Howe’s starting XI no stronger than it was at the start of last season.
Newcastle have a £100million transfer budget, with most of that money expected to go towards a winger. Howe needs someone to join Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack, but various targets are passing them by.
Michael Olise signed for Bayern Munich, while Cyrsencio Summerville is joining West Ham. Speaking of the Hammers, Jarrod Bowen to Newcastle is a non-starter.
Morgan Gibbs-White to Newcastle update
And now another target has become unavailable, with Nottingham Forest set to retain the services of Morgan Gibbs-White.

That is according to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about the 24-year-old’s future at the City Ground.
“Gibbs-White would be a good option for Newcastle United, but Nottingham Forest are not going to sell,” he said.
“They do not need to sell, nor do they want to. They do not see a situation where Gibbs-White leaves the City Ground this summer.”
Gibbs-White has been linked with Newcastle move
With Gibbs-White set to stay at Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United can cross another name off of their list of targets.
Gibbs-White was seen as a player who Newcastle would try to sign this summer, while there were even suggestions in June that Newcastle were favourites to sign Gibbs-White.
However, the £42.5million man is staying put, and will instead continue to play in Garibaldi red alongside Elliot Anderson, who Newcastle sold to Forest.
It is a blow, as Gibbs-White would have ticked a lot of boxes for the Magpies due to his versatility. He can play on either flank, or as an attacking midfielder. That would have given Howe a different option, while Gibbs-White is also competent in a deeper midfield role.
On top of that, Gibbs-White is a leader, which is a quality that Newcastle would appreciate after losing a key figure behind the scenes in Matt Ritchie. There is also a chance that Kieran Trippier could leave.
But while Trippier might leave, Gibbs-White will not arrive at Newcastle United – nor anywhere else for that matter. He is staying with Nottingham Forest, which is a big boost for Nuno Espirito Santo.
As for Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell, they will take their attacker search elsewhere.
