Newcastle United will be in the market for a new forward this summer, and one player they targeted in January is set to be available.
It has already been reported that the Magpies are going to be looking to sign an attacker ahead of the 2024/25 season, having endured a frustrating January transfer window.
Newcastle were unable to make any major signings due to profit and sustainability rules, but that did not stop plenty of players being linked with moves to St James’ Park.
One of those was Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has nine goals and six assists in all competitions this season. The 22-year-old was named as a target for Newcastle, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the club’s radar in the summer ahead of next season.

Newcastle’s January target Joshua Zirkzee is going to be available this summer
That is because it looks like Zirkzee is going to be on the move.
According to Calciomercato, the 22-year-old is expected to say goodbye to Bologna at the end of the current season.
They state that Bayern Munich will have the opportunity to re-sign the Netherlands Under-21 international for £34million after selling him to the Italian side in August 2022. However, any other club that is interested in Zirkzee will have to pay much more.
Calciomercato add that Manchester United have asked for information about him, although there is no mention of Eddie Howe’s side in this instance.
But Newcastle are going to be looking for a player like Zirkzee. He is still incredibly young and has a lot of potential, while the Magpies might be looking for a Callum Wilson replacement. He was linked with a move away in January, and is reportedly questioning his future on Tyneside with regards to next season.
