Newcastle United’s summer hopes have suffered yet another blow after it emerged that one of their former targets has no interest in signing for them.
The Magpies first registered their interest in Juventus winger Federico Chiesa last summer when they were looking to upgrade their right-wing position, but nothing ever came of it.
Now, a report from Tuttosport is claiming that Chiesa had actually rejected approaches from both Newcastle and Aston Villa as he didn’t consider them elite European teams.
Newcastle will not sign talented winger this summer
Although he’s suffered heavily with injuries, Chiesa is still a very talented player and proved so on an international level during the Euro 2020 tournament in which he really impressed while lifting the trophy with Italy.
His time at Juventus, however, has not been so successful and very recently he was actually booed off of the pitch by his own fans in a 3-2 win against Frosinone.
This again sparked the rumours that he could be leaving and just last week it emerged that he would be up for sale for as little as £30m, giving Newcastle confidence they could go and sign the star player.
However, this new report has killed off any hope Newcastle may have had for the attacker as he looks to join an elite side like Chelsea or Man United despite the Geordies being in and around that European conversation.

Newcastle must turn their attention elsewhere
What Eddie Howe has built at Newcastle in just over two years now is a squad full of players who are willing to fight for each other and fight for the fans, showing a real resilience and determination to succeed with this club.
It’s that determined attitude that has at times won them big games when perhaps the quality of players did not match their opposition and it is hugely valued by Howe.
While they can appreciate his talent, it would therefore be pointless chasing after Chiesa when they know he would not have that same fight for a club who he doesn’t believe are good enough for his standards.
With Yankuba Minteh coming back from his loan from Feyenoord it seems like it would be more beneficial to give him game time at that right-wing position and save the funds to reinvest elsewhere.
