Newcastle United are once again hoping to bolster their attack this summer, and they could return to a former target to do that.
Newcastle’s attack has been quite hit or miss this season but there’s one player in particular who supporters have grown frustrated with as Miguel Almiron’s output does not match that of last season’s.
One option who Newcastle have considered in the past on the right is Federico Chiesa and journalist Gianluca Oddenino now claims that Newcastle have been ‘particularly attentive’ to the winger who was booed by Juventus fans on Sunday.
Newcastle targeting £43m move for unsettled winger
With just one goal in 2024 and a number of injury problems that have kept him out for spells during this season, Juventus are growing frustrated with Chiesa’s performances.
Newcastle have a longstanding interest in the Italian going back to last summer when it looked like he was happy to come to the North East, but a move never materialised and Chiesa stayed in Italy.
Now, it is claimed that Newcastle won’t be alone in their pursuit of the £43m player as Liverpool are now also keen on signing him, and Oddenino suggests there has ‘always been interest’ from Premier League clubs.
On Sunday, Chiesa’s situation with the Serie A club was made worse as he was substituted off to boos from his own fans during their match against Frosinone, so he may soon be after a move away.
On Chiesa, Oddenino said: “The Premier League has always been interested in Chiesa right from the moment when things were going decidedly well, perhaps they still had in their eyes what he had done at the European Championship. In addition to Liverpool also Newcastle.
“Maybe the next European Championship could help Chiesa to show off again, also because at this moment in which it is difficult for him not only to score, but sometimes also to play, this situation does not help either Chiesa with his requests for a renewal, nor Juventus if he wants to sell it at certain figures.
“Yildiz is the talent that is most convincing and on which Juventus has decided to focus strongly, even at the cost of sacrificing Soulé, who is a player who has a market thanks to space that he found in Frosinone , but there are already several English clubs that have come knocking offering tens of millions.
“Juventus knows that they will have to make some sacrifices on the market, whether it be Chiesa or Soulé himself, perhaps Bremer himself, for whom important offers could arrive. However, it is more likely that he too will be among the untouchables given what he is doing this season. However, the unsellable strong player is now only Yildiz .”

Newcastle need someone with European pedigree
While Newcastle’s squad does boast a lot of talent, they don’t necessarily have much European experience within the squad and Chiesa could provide that down the right flank.
The 26-year-old has played 15 times in the Champions League and, although it doesn’t look like Newcastle will be in the competition next year, would help in pushing them back amongst Europe’s elite.
With the fee previously rumoured to be around £43m and Chiesa now having just less than 18 months on his current contract, Newcastle could be very clever and secure themselves a bargain deal here.
That’s exactly what they’re going to have to do this summer with so many financial regulations limiting how much they can spend.
