Newcastle United are about to say goodbye to Isaac Hayden, but only temporarily.

The midfielder is finally about to leave Newcastle, having spent the entire summer training away from the club.

Hayden was one of multiple senior players who Eddie Howe wanted rid of, but the 28-year-old saw various moves away from St James’ Park collapse.

There was talk of him joining Premier League side Luton Town, but an agreement could not be reached.

Now Hayden is set to take his talents to Belgium, with Standard Liege due to sign him on a season-long loan. However, he will be back at the club next summer.

Isaac Hayden set for Standard Liege loan

According to Belgian outlet Le Soir, Standard Liege are going to sign Hayden on loan, but the deal does not include an option or an obligation to buy him next summer.

They state that he has passed his medical with the club, and watched them play on Saturday. Standard Liege drew 1-1 with RWD Molenbeek.

It looks like everything is in place for Hayden to become a Standard Liege player for the year. However, there is no desperation to get the deal done as soon as possible, with the Belgian transfer market open until Wednesday.

However, official confirmation is right around the corner.

While it is great that Hayden is getting a move and will be able to play football, it is a real shame that the move does not at least include an option to buy.

That means that he will definitely be back at Newcastle next summer, when the club will likely have the same issues again with trying to offload him. This is going to be an ongoing problem for the Magpies, as Hayden has a contract at St James’ Park until 2026.

In an ideal world, Hayden thrives in Belgium and earns a permanent move to Standard Liege. However, that will depend on how well he does over there and how willing he is to move his family overseas.
