It looked for all the world that Isaac Hayden was going to leave Newcastle United and sign for Luton Town on loan.
The Magpies are eager to get rid of Hayden this summer. He is someone who has no future on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe excluding him from first-team training.
There was concern when it emerged that there had been no bids for the 28-year-old, but then came an approach from Premier League new boys Luton Town.
Hayden was set to sign for the Hatters on loan, having agreed to make the move and undergone a medical with the club.
However, the deal is now off.

Isaac Hayden is no longer signing for Luton Town
Luton Town were in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night, beating Gillingham 3-2 to advance to the third round. After the game, Luton boss Rob Edwards spoke to the media and was asked about his side’s interest in Hayden.
“We couldn’t quite agree a deal unfortunately,” he said.
“He’s someone we had a look at, clearly, there was interest. He’s a good player but unfortunately we couldn’t quite agree a deal.
“We can have a look and see what else we can do in the next couple of days.”
Time running out for Newcastle to get rid
Edwards has confirmed that his side did try to sign Hayden, but was unable to clarify why a deal had collapsed.

It is a real shame for Hayden, as it would have been a great opportunity for him to play in the Premier League and rejuvenate his career.
While so many players have benefitted from the Newcastle takeover, Hayden is not one of them. The change of ownership and arrival of Howe has led to the midfielder being forced out.
He spent last season on loan in the Championship at Norwich City but majorly struggled with injuries.
Therefore, he must have been relishing the chance to play Premier League football once again. However, the deal is now off and both Newcastle and Hayden are running out of time to find a new club.
He desperately needs a move, so fingers crossed he gets one before the transfer window closes on Friday night.
