Newcastle United have finally managed to free up another chunk of the wage bill by moving on Isaac Hayden after a tricky transfer window.
Isaac Hayden saw two loan moves from Newcastle collapse in the final days of the transfer window. A move to Premier League newbies Luton Town broke down when the player and the club failed to agree terms. Then a proposed move to Sheffield Wednesday failed to materialise with rumours suggesting that Hayden had failed his medical.
However it now looks like the Arsenal academy graduate has found a new home for this season on the continent.
Isaac Hayden is set to spend the next season at Standard Liege
Belgian side Standard Liege have agreed a deal to take Hayden on loan for the season according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri who posted on X: “DONE DEAL It’s Isaac Hayden to #Standard Liege Signing Day! #NUFC midfielder will finally be loaned to #RSCL without an option to buy… Confirmed. Been told the Englishman already very committed to the contribution he can make to the team. #mercato #PL“
The Belgian transfer deadline is on Wednesday meaning switch still has time to be ratified.

Isaac Hayden still has three years on his Newcastle contract and is on a very decent wage which is make it difficult for Newcastle to move him on despite it being made clear he has no future at the club.
It’s a sad end to Hayden’s Newcastle career as he always looked like he had potential to be great but a bad injury saw him miss a lot of football and then under Eddie Howe he couldn’t fight his way back into contention.
Newcastle will have this all to do again next year
After a season on loan at Norwich last season where he again missed a lot of football through injury it became clear that his time was up at Newcastle and he had to move on.

The Standard Liege deal doesn’t include an obligation to buy which means Newcastle will likely have to try again to find a new home for Hayden next summer.
Unless of course he’s a revelation at Standard Liege and they decide to make the move a permanent one.
