It has been a wild 24 hours in the transfer window, and a target who Newcastle United looked set to miss out on is now going to be available once again.

While all the talk is about Harry Kane going to Bayern Munich and Liverpool and Chelsea fighting over Moises Caicedo, Tyler Adams is another player who has been linked with a move.

He has a £20million release clause following Leeds United’s relegation, and it looked like Chelsea were going to pay it.

It was reported on Thursday that the Blues had triggered the release clause, with Adams due to undergo a medical at the club’s training ground.

Everything appeared to be set for Adams to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but now that deal is reportedly off.

Tyler Adams’ transfer to Chelsea is now off

According to Sky Sports, the deal to take Adams from Leeds United to Chelsea is now off.

They state that an agreement could not be reached between the parties, with talks breaking down between Adams’ representatives and Chelsea officials.

Sky Sports add that the 24-year-old is now going to return to Leeds.

Whether or not this has anything to do with Caicedo possibly heading to Chelsea remains to be seen, but it is certainly a shock.

Newcastle have looked at Adams

With the Chelsea deal now off, that could create an opportunity for Newcastle.

The Magpies were linked with the USA international earlier in the summer. Toon scouts have been impressed by Adams, who performed very well at St James’ Park last season.

He would be an astute addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, but it remains to be seen if the Newcastle boss is interested in signing another midfielder.

The current priority appears to be a central defender, with Howe eager to sign one more player before the transfer window closes.

That could rule out a move for Adams, but the opportunity is there if Newcastle want it following the collapse of his move to Chelsea.
