The one player Newcastle really need to sell on deadline day is ‘inconsistent’ 28-year-old player

Newcastle United probably will not sign anyone on transfer deadline day, but there could be outgoings at St James’ Park.

Some Toon departures feel likely on the final day of what has been a very frustrating transfer window for Newcastle United.

That Magpies have not signed anyone so far, and that does not look likely to change. They need to sell before they buy, but it would now be a shock if any of Eddie Howe‘s key players were to depart.

But it is a chance to move some fringe players on, with Javi Manquillo recently leaving the club to sign for Celta Vigo. That should be a good move for him, and hopefully another Newcastle player who was signed by Rafa Benitez follows him out the door before the transfer window slams shut.

Newcastle need to find a new club for Isaac Hayden on deadline day

Newcastle simply need to move Isaac Hayden on before the transfer window closes. The deadline for English clubs is 11pm on February 1st, which is the important one when it comes to the 28-year-old.

That is because he has been linked with plenty of Championship clubs, such as Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End.

The need to move Hayden has come about after his loan spell at Standard Liege was cut short. He was set to spend the season with the Belgian club, but he was recalled earlier this year.

It was far from a harmonious end to his time in Liege, with their CEO describing Hayden’s performances as ‘inconsistent‘. Meanwhile, he claims to have had issues with regards to being paid his wages.

Now Hayden is in need of a new club, and it would be great if Newcastle could find him a permanent home. He has a contract at St James’ Park until 2026, but there is no way he will play for the Magpies again. Even though Eddie Howe needs a midfielder right now, he is not considering bringing Hayden back into the fold.

He needs a fresh start, ideally at a club where he can have a long-term future. That is why Newcastle should ideally push for any deadline day move to be a permanent one, or at least a deal with an obligation to buy in the summer.

That might be difficult, but it is what Hayden needs. He is a top professional, as we saw throughout his time on Tyneside. He would be a great addition to most Championship sides, and we seriously hope he can get a move on deadline day and start playing regularly once again.
